Negaunee netters top MSHS

NEGAUNEE – A day after capturing its third straight Mid-Peninsula Conference championship, the Negaunee High School boys tennis team turned back visiting Marquette on Friday, 5-3.

“We placed an emphasis … not to be too satisfied with the conference title because we knew this meet was important,” NHS head coach Kyle Saari said.

“We responded, especially at Nos. 3 and 4 doubles.”

There, Alex Roth and Ben Luke at No. 3, and Parker Bowman and Jacob Paupore at No. 4, posted wins for the Miners.

NHS (9-2-1) took three of four singles matches. Cody Tossava led the way at No. 1 with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Josh Downs.

At No. 1 doubles, Marquette’s Kyle King and Alex Shahbazi beat Doug Lindblom and Nick Martin, 6-1, 6-2.
