Red Bulls U12 win Cherry Capital Cup

MARQUETTE – A 5-2 victory in the championship game over the Elk Rapids Soccer Club gave the SSA Red Bulls U12 team of Marquette its third straight Cherry Capital Cup title in action held in downstate Traverse City.

Brendan McCoy, Shane McEachern, Ethan Martysz (2) and Trevor Salmon scored for the Red Bulls (11-4-2), who led 2-0 at the half.

Drawing assists were Salmon, Nicolaas Vermatt and Tylor Thiel-Robinson.

Soren Higgins tended goal for the winners.

The Red Bulls blanked the Gaylord Surge, 2-0, to advance to the championship game. Salmon and Martysz found the back of the net, with Martysz and Drew Wyble collecting helpers.

Vermaat and Higgins tended net for the Marquette club.

The Red Bulls also tied the Elk Rapids Crush, 2-2, as Theo Kumpula and Salmon scored for Marquette, with Martysz getting an assist.

Higgins and Vermaat again shared goalkeeper duties for Marquette.

In their opening tourney game, the Red Bulls shut out TBAYS-Chile of Traverse City, 6-0.

Martysz (2), Salmon (2), Thiel-Robinson and Vermaat scored for the Marquette kickers.

Picking up assists were Martysz (2), Vermaat (2), Thiel-Robinson and McCoy.

Vermaat and Higgins teamed up in goal for the shutout. with the help of defenders Evan Phillips, Erik Salminen and Hunter Sides.

The Red Bulls are coached by Dan Salmon and Steve McCoy.
