Driver in accident faces charges

MARQUETTE – A Marquette woman pleaded not guilty Monday to a drug charge in connection with a Friday afternoon accident in downtown Marquette.

The Marquette City Police Department reported Ariel C. Williamson, 20, was driving a four-door Ford westbound on Washington Street at approximately 4:40 p.m. Friday when the car collided with two parked cars and struck a sign. Police said both of the other vehicles – a Honda SUV and a four-door Toyota – were legally parked at the time of the accident.

Williamson was arrested and was charged with possession of a controlled substance-non-narcotic (clonezepam) and reckless driving. She pleaded not guilty Monday to both charges.

Williamson is being held in the Marquette county Jail on a bond of 10 percent of $7,500 and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing May 31.

No injuries were reported in the accident.
