Barbara Ann Pierce

LITTLE LAKE, MI. – Barbara Ann Pierce, 62, of Little Lake, Michigan passed away on Friday, May 17, 2013 at home, surrounded by her family.

Barb was born September 18, 1950 to Bernard and Agnes Lorasch in Houghton, Michigan. A lifelong resident of the Upper Peninsula, she was married to Alan Pierce September 8, 1973, made her life and raised her family between Little Lake and Carlshend Michigan.

Barb’s life can be best described as one of steady dedication borne of love: to her marriage of 40 years, to her three children and first granddaughter, to her profession as a nurse which culminated in a 34 year career at Marquette General Hospital, to her treasured sister and many dear friends, and to her faith that she nurtured and developed over time. Barb was a devoted wife to Al, both of whom grew together over the decades and showed their children how to overcome difficult times, change as life changes, and flourish together as two very different people united by shared values. As a nurse, Barb lead others by showing that compassion and gentleness were the first and most important duties, and that sometimes you had to speak up for your patients to make sure they received the care they needed. Barb was a trusted sister and friend, always ready to listen, hug, laugh, bake some brownies, a dedicated sender of cards or notes, and was ready to be there when needed.

Barb was deeply dedicated to her faith, working to grow in prayer and in her relationship with God, as well as practicing kindness and charity to those she knew and those she did not.

She is survived by her husband Alan, sons Eric (Rachel) of Avon, Indiana and Carl (Sarah) of Appleton, Wisconsin, and daughter Stephanie (Tim) of Alden, Michigan, granddaughter Alaina and sister Rita of Houghton Michigan.

She was preceded in passing by her parents and her brother Bernard.

She will be sorely missed by her family and friends. Peace to her memory.
