Prep softball: Ishpeming sweeps Westwood in doubleheader
ISHPEMING – Totaling 33 runs, the Ishpeming High School girls softball team mercied visiting Westwood twice on Thursday.
The Hematites won the first game 17-2 in four innings. In the nightcap, Ishpeming (5-6) took a 16-5 triumph in five frames.
“Hitting was the key. We were just swinging the bats,” Ishpeming manager Jeremy Thompson said. “We’re committing fewer errors, too. We only had two today.”
Sinaed Korvala went 4-for-4 with a triple, scored three runs and knocked in one in the first game for the winners.
Lindsey Thompson added three hits, scored a run and plated two more, while Hematites teammate Natalee Dobson posted two safeties (double), came home twice and picked up an RBI.
Lacey Pietro singled and drove in a run for Westwood.
Caitlin Korvala took the mound win; Hannah Storm the loss.
In the second game, Hailly Thompson picked up the pitching victory behind an 11-hit Ishpeming attack.
Gabby Croley led the way with two triples, three runs and two RBI. Melanee Bess chipped in a hit, three runs and two RBI, while Libbie Doney produced a triple and knocked in three runs.
Shana Caliguri shouldered the loss, though Storm hit a double, scored a run and plated another.
