Prep golf: Munising splits with Manistique at Pictured Rocks Golf Club

MUNISING – Munising had both medalists at a high school golf meet on Tuesday, but only got a split against Manistique.

Gwinn was also at this triangular, but didn’t field enough golfers for a boys team score and didn’t have any girls play.

Playing at Pictured Rocks Golf Club, the host Mustangs pulled out a 212-231 victory over the Emeralds in the girls meet as sophomore exchange student Carla Nottmeier was medalist with 46.

“Carla’s been very consistent for us this year,” Munising coach Bette Immel said.

Senior teammate Eve Gendron and Manistique sophomore Hailey Hoholik were next with 53s, while Munising senior Molly Matson carded a 55 and Manistique freshman Rachel Ryan notched a 56.

On the boys side, though MHS sophomore Colin Immel was medalist by two strokes with 41, the Emeralds pulled out a close 183-185 team victory.

“That was a nice score for Colin,” Bette Immel said. “He’s not been shooting his best, but today he had a great day.”

Gwinn junior Alex Morse was the next-best shooter with a 43, while all three teams had a golfer record a 44 – Munising sophomore Izaak Mahoski, Manistique senior Josh Hentschell and Gwinn senior Matt Moilanen.

The Pictured Rocks course will host the 16-team Munising Invitational at 10 a.m. on Friday with an all-Upper Peninsula field that will include Tuesday’s combatants plus Marquette, Negaunee, Ishpeming, Westwood and Newberry.
