MENOMINEE – Marquette Senior High School’s Avery Rochester continued her winning ways Monday by taking top honors at a prep golf tournament held at Menominee’s Riverside course.

Rochester carded an 80, but Marquette didn’t have enough golfers to qualify for a team score. Teammate Katie Pryor turned in a 116 for seventh place overall.

Escanaba captured the team title.

In the boys match, Marinette (Wis.) claimed first place, while MSHS finished third.

In play at the North Shore course, Marquette’s Brett Specker tied for medalist honors with an 80. Other MSHS scorers were Scott Frazier (84, for eighth overall), Jordan Frazier (89) and Zach Sherbinow (99).

Iron Mountain, behind medalist Nate Markell’s 3-over-par 39, captured a high school golf quadrangular Monday at Pine Grove Country Club in Iron Mountain.

Markell outlasted Kingsford’s Derek Carpenter, who also shot 39, in a two-hole playoff for medalist honors.

The Mountaineers, adding a 40 from Austin Blomquist, posted a 166 to best the Flivvers, 171; Westwood, 206; and Ishpeming, 224.

Carpenter and Marcus Andrews, 42, paced the Flivvers. Cody Kugler led Ishpeming with a 45 and Westwood’s Connor Mason fired a 48.
