Fingerprints deserves support in quest for stars

It’s not often we get the chance to help a dream come true.

But Superiorland residents can do just that by supporting The Fingerprints, an a cappella quartet from Marquette, four young men who have the chance to audition for “The Sing Off” later this month.

The four members of The Fingerprints are David Bashaw, 17, a junior at Marquette Senior High School; Bryce Genovese, 17, a junior at MSHS; David Gilbert, 19, a student at Michigan Tech University; and Marty Gray, 18, a senior at MSHS.

They were invited by a casting director for the hit NBC singing competition to make a trip to New York City for an audition on May 18.

But as with anything, there are expenses involved in getting to the Big Apple.

That’s where the local community can help.

The Fingerprints received a $2,000 grant from the Kaufman Foundation, but needs to raise more funds to make the trip a reality. Donations can be made at the U.P. Catholic Credit Union’s three branches. Those wanting to make larger donations can do so through the Marquette Area Public Schools in order to receive tax-deductible status.

For more information on making contributions, call Karen Bashaw at 362-3621.

For those who want to hear The Fingerprints sing, they will be among the performers at the Marquette Senior High School Choral Concert at 7 p.m. May 15 at Kaufman Auditorium in Marquette.

Or The Fingerprints have posted a number of videos on YouTube. Here’s the link to one:

We’re hoping these talented young men are going to be able to head east for a shot at earning a slot in this summer’s “The Sing Off” competition. The winning group will earn $100,000 and a Sony recording contract.

We wish David, Bryce, David and Marty all the best as they work to make a dream come true.
