Robert ‘Bob’ A. Wiley
GWINN/ISHPEMING – Robert “Bob” A. Wiley, age 69, of 302 S. Spring Lake Lane, Gwinn and 215 S. Lilac St., Ishpeming, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013, at Marquette General Hospital following a 3 1/2 year courageous battle with mesothelioma.
Robert was born January 29, 1944, in Columbus, Ohio, to Ralph and Martha (Kutcher) Wiley. Bob graduated from George Rogers Clark High School, Hammond, Indiana, class of 1962 and attended Northern Michigan University. Bob served his country in the U.S. Army serving as a medic. Bob worked in the construction trade as a Boilermaker for 35 years, retiring in 2002. He was a member of the Boilermakers Local #169 of Dearborn, Michigan, and was a former apprentice coordinator for the Boilermakers in the Upper Peninsula.
Bob was a member of the Ishpeming Elks Lodge #447, Greenwood American Legion Lillian Larson Post #114, Masonic Teal Lake Lodge #202, Ahmed Temple Shriners and Scottish Rite Valley of Marquette and past Master of the Ishpeming Masonic Lodge #314 in 1989. Bob had many interests, including hunting and fishing, especially enjoying the times with his daughter, Lisa, watching NASCAR and cheering for Jeff Gordon, camping, golfing, playing the guitar, playing pool in the Ishpeming pool league and wintering in Arizona for six years. Bob was pleased to see his dream home built last year on Bass Lake. He also truly enjoyed spending time with family. Although Bob was not born in the U.P., he always considered the U.P. as his home.
Bob is survived by his wife Janet (Levi) Wiley, whom he married on May 21, 1966, a daughter Lisa (fiance William Westman) Wiley of Ishpeming, sisters-in-law Donna (Joseph) Richards and Sandy Levi both of Ishpeming, an uncle Carl (Anita) Wiley of Grove City, Ohio along with cousins, nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Martha.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013, at the Faith Lutheran Church, County Road 581, Ishpeming with the Rev. David Johnson officiating. Entombment will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens.
Bob’s family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday at the Faith Lutheran Church from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. A luncheon will be held following the service in the church fellowship hall.
Military honors will be accorded by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 380.
Pallbearers will be Jim Massey, Frank Richards, Skip Van Buren, Bill Raredon, Mike Skewis and Ron Ivey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial considerations may be directed to the Faith Lutheran Church Memorial Fund in memory of Bob.
