Prep golf: Westwood boys, girls take third in Manistique Triangular
MANISTIQUE – Both were glad to be playing outdoors for the first time this season, but the Westwood High School boys and girls golf teams each placed third in the Manistique Triangular on Monday.
The Westwood boys, led by Connor Mason’s 49, finished with a 201 total behind winner Manistique (181) and Menominee (192) at the Indian Lake Golf and Country Club in Manistique.
In the girls meet, Westwood got a 58 from Brooke Kutchie, but the Patriots managed a 286 score to Menominee’s 230 and runner-up Manistique’s 256.
“It was the first time we played golf outdoors this season,” WHS head coach Jared Koski said. “We never even had any practice on grass (due to inclement weather and poor local golf course conditions).
“We also graduated a lot last year so we’re young on both teams. We can only get better, though.”
Manistique’s Zachary Powers took medalist honors for the boys with a 43. In the girls competition, Danielle Saucier of Menominee claimed the title with a 49.
