Munising chiropractor back in court next week
MARQUETTE – A judge is expected to rule Monday on a pair of motions in the case against a former Munising chiropractor.
George Conrad-Spencer Young, 54, is charged with eight counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct, using force or coercion.
Each count is punishable by up to two years in prison and a $500 fine.
Young’s accusers are former patients and the charges are related to alleged conduct during chiropractic visits. The defendant was an employee of the HealthQuest chiropractic clinic of Alger County.
In early April, the prosecution made a motion to consolidate the eight cases against Young, while the defense moved for a change of venue in the case. Carmody delayed ruling on the motions until Monday.
Previously, Young’s defense attorney said most of the accusations against his client began after HealthQuest published an apology letter – following a previous incident involving Young – to patients, which ran in The Munising News late last year.
The letter from HealthQuest, dated Dec. 26 and signed by company president and CEO Solomon Colgan, states that Young “has recently encountered problems with the law and his actions have fallen far below HealthQuest standards.”
In December, Young entered a guilty plea to an assault and battery charge and was sentenced to 30 days in jail and ordered to pay $1,525 in fines, costs and restitution.
In a related case, Alger County sheriff’s deputy Billy Carlson is scheduled to enter a plea later this month. Carlson, 42, is being charged in connection with an alleged assault on Young and is facing one count of assault and battery, a misdemeanor.
Carlson, of Munising, is the husband of an alleged victim and allegedly assaulted Young when the latter was an inmate in the Alger County Jail in December.
Carlson’s case is being prosecuted by Delta County Prosecutor Steve Parks. Marquette District Court Judge Dennis Girard is handling the case.
Carlson is scheduled for a plea hearing on May 16.
