Girard named top coach of Midwest Conference

MARQUETTE – Former two-time Upper Peninsula champion Kevin Girard of Marquette has been named the Midwest Conference Coach of the Year in men’s tennis.

Girard coached the Vikings to a second-place conference finish, the best showing in the championships since the Green Bay, Wis., squad took runner-up honors in 2003.

The Vikings finished second in the conference after losing to Grinnell College in the league championship match on Friday.

Lawrence finished with a 14-7 dual meet record this spring and won the league’s North Division.

This was the first time Girard has won Coach of the Year since coming to Lawrence in the summer of 2007.
