Prep golf: Gwinn’s Moilanen claims medalist honors at Manisitque’s Indian lake Golf Course
MANISTIQUE – Matt Moilanen of Gwinn High School made the most out of finally getting out on a golf course this season.
He shot a 42 Monday to claim boys’ medalist honors in the Manistique Triangular at Indian Lake Golf Course in Manistique.
“He hadn’t golfed this season, so that wasn’t bad,” Munising High School head coach Bette Immel said.
The host Emeralds, behind a 44 by Zach Powers, took the team title 182-189 over Munising. Gwinn didn’t have enough golfers for a team score.
Tyler Tweedale shot a 43 to pace the Mustangs.
“My boys aren’t where they should be,” Immel said. “We have four returnees from last year and hadn’t swung a club yet (due to poor weather/course conditions).”
The girls meet saw Munising come away with a 245-262 triumph over Manistique.
Molly Matson and Carla Nottmeier each carded a 53 for the Mustangs, while Hailey Hoholik turned in a meet-best 51 for the Emeralds.
“To see a couple of 53s after not practicing, that’s pretty exciting for my girls,” Immel said.
