Ellen M. Linjala

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Ellen M. Linjala, age 91 passed away Tuesday April 16, 2013 at Walnut Grove Assisted Living (now Artisan).

She was born on May 21, 1921 in Rock, Michigan, to John and Mary (Masalin) Heino. On November 21, 1942 she married Elmer Linjala and lived in Negaunee, Michigan, for 5 years. In 1947, they moved back to Rock to take over the family dairy farm. At the age of 46 she decided to go to college, graduating from Northern Michigan University in 1972 with a Bachelors of Science Degree. After graduation she worked for Social Services for the State of Michigan in Escanaba until retirement in 1982. She moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin, in 1999 to take care of her husband who had alzheimers/dementia.

Ellen enjoyed fishing on Lake Superior with her husband which they did every year. She enjoyed deer hunting and was a very good shot. They enjoyed snowmobiling, cross country skiing, camping, traveling and community activities. She also enjoyed her garden and her sewing club. She is also remembered as a dedicated 4-H leader. She especially enjoyed her 90th birthday with her family attending. She is survived by her three children: Diane Baylor of Florida, Edward (Shari) Linjala of Missoula, Montana and Nancy Linjala (Dale Brandt) of Green Bay Wisconsin. She is also survived by three grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Ellen was preceded in death by her husband Elmer in 2000 and her parents.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Rock Michigan, where she and her husband enjoyed a wonderful life. The family would like to thank Walnut Grove and Asera Care Hospice for the loving care they gave her over the last few years.
