Marquette Soccer Academy U15 boys win Superior Dome Tournament title

MARQUETTE – The Marquette Soccer Academy’s UPFA United Boy’s U15 team went 3-0 to capture the championship at the annual SSA Superior Dome Soccer Tournament April 12-14.

The UPFA United is an elite team combining players from throughout the Upper Peninsula and run under the direction of the Marquette Soccer Academy.

The United team trimmed Marquette’s SSA Red Bulls 2-1 on Friday behind goals from Geno Bianco and James Bruce.

Saturday, United thumped the Niagra (Wis.) Northern Stars, 4-1, behind goals from Calvin Pina, Bianco, Chris Roell and Austin Person.

In the title game, United prevailed 2-1 over the Petoskey Lakers. Zach Stenkevitch scored both goals for the winners.

“I’m very impressed at what the boys achieved after being together for barely a week,” United coach Chris Toolen said. “You really saw them coming together as the tournament progressed … .”

Meanwhile, the Marquette Soccer Academy’s boy’s U14 team went 1-2 on the weekend, defeating the Green Bay Lighting 4-1 in the its final game.

The UPFA United boy’s U18 squad posted a 2-1 mark at the tournament, defeating Vardar, 3-0, in its last contest.
