Father John Olivier

BALTIMORE, Md. – Father John Olivier, age 93, died April 12, 2013 in Baltimore, Md.

He was born February 27, 1920. Father George E. Olivier and mother, Gertrude Siegel in Marquette, Michigan. He attended Baraga School until his senior year in high school when he left to attend the seminary in Baltimore, Md. He was ordained a priest in May 1947 in Detroit. He was a member of the Sulpician Order and taught in seminaries in California for many years. He also did parish work in the San Francisco area. He was a talented musician who received a doctorate in sacred music from the Peabody Music Institute in Baltimore while he was in the seminary there and another music degree when he worked in California. He composed for organ and piano and also did choral work.

After retiring he lived in Paicines, Calif., and later moved to the Sulpician retirement home in Baltimore.

He is survived by sisters Frances Trainor and Mary Puetzer, and brothers Paul (Olive) and Stephen (Pat). Besides his parents he was preceded in death by sister Anne Holliday and brother, George (Dorothy).

A memorial Mass will be offered Saturday, April 20, at the chapel of The Little Sisters of the Poor in Baltimore (Catonsville), Md.
