Betty J. Berglund

MARQUETTE, Mich. – Betty J. Berglund, age 86, of Marquette, entered eternal life Saturday evening, April 13, 2013, in the Hospice Suite located at Marquette General Hospital, in the loving and comforting care of her family and the caregivers of Lake Superior Hospice.

Betty was born October 23, 1926, in Gwinn, to John and Adena (Horngren) Burling. Raised in Skandia and Dukes, Betty was proud of her Swedish roots. She was a member of the 1944 graduating class of Graveraet High School in Marquette. Following graduation, she went to work for the Boy Scouts of America as a secretary. On February 18, 1950, Raymond P. Berglund took Betty’s hand in marriage and it was in Marquette where Betty and Raymond established a home and began to raise their family. Betty’s family and home were the center of her life. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time on the beach at the family camp on Lake Superior, playing cribbage, bowling, and crossword puzzles. Betty had a deep love for her family, especially her grandchildren who were the pride and joy of her life. She attended every sporting event, concert, and activity they were involved in.

Betty is survived by her husband of 63 years, Raymond P. Berglund; daughters, Jane (Bob) Sims, Joan (Mike) Hill, and Judy Berglund; grandchildren, Rob, Jeff (Jamie), Andy (Erin Swick) Sims, Melissa and Jon Hill; great-granddaughter, Allie Rae Sims; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Paul in 1986; her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Esther Burling; and her sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Lewis Ingalls.

Visitation for Betty will be held at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Marquette on Tuesday, April 16, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 noon. Rev. William Payne will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Lake Superior Hospice Association, 914 W. Baraga Avenue, Marquette, MI 49855 or St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 1318 Presque Isle Avenue, Marquette, MI 49855.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Mill Creek Assisted Living, Lake Superior Hospice, and Marquette General Hospital, for the many kindnesses, love and support they received during this difficult time.
