Dick’s Pump and Munch, Vango’s reach Class D final of NIT

NEGAUNEE – Tonight’s Negaunee Invitational Basketball Tournament Class D final is set after victories by Vango’s of Marquette and Dick’s Pump and Munch of L’Anse Tuesday at Negaunee’s Lakeview Memorial Gymnasium.

The Class D final is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. after a pair of Class E semifinals between Corktown Bar of Munising and Autrain Grocery of Autrain at 6 p.m., followed by Mary’s Kids of Ishpeming versus Congress Pizza of Ishpeming at 7:15 p.m.

Vango’s picked up a 66-56 victory over Martin’s Sports Apparel of Gwinn on Tuesday. Nate Adams led with 22 points, followed by Kyle Boudreau with 18 and Brandon Shon with 17. No scorers were reported for Martin’s.

In the other Class D semifinal, Dick’s topped Eastwood of Negaunee, 61-48, behind 24 points by Josh Cole. Chris Loonsfoot had 18 for Dick’s while Tony Loonsfoot had 12. For Eastwood, Ray Johnson led with 17 points.

Also Tuesday, 41 Steakhouse of Ishpeming reached Thursday’s Class EE semifinals with a 61-41 win over North Oak Manufacturing of Negaunee.

Matt Frisk had 20 points to lead North Oak while both Jesse Penny and Dan Pellinen had 12 points. For North Oak, Andrew Kruger and Jeff Martin each had 10.

41 Steakhouse will play Meyer Family Vision of Ishpeming at 6:30 p.m. in the first Class EE semifinal on Thursday followed by E.Q Muffler of Marquette against Superior Shooters of Marquette at 7:45 p.m.

The Class DD final caps Thursday’s action with Portage Health Apothecary of the Copper Country facing Sodergren’s Septic of Ishpeming.
