DEERTON, Mich. – Lois Sweany, 96, of Deerton, Michigan, died Sunday afternoon, April 7, 2013, at her home, with her family by her side and under the care of UP Home Health & Hospice.
She was born June 30, 1916, in South Bend, Indiana, a daughter of the late Milford and Vera (O’Dell) Price. Lois was a 1934 graduate of Central High School. She attended Beauty College and had taken some secretarial courses.
Lois worked for several years as an executive secretary for the Indiana-Michigan Electric Company. Following her retirement, she moved to Leesburg, Florida where she resided for 25 years. In 2007 she moved to Deerton to be near her son and his family.
She is survived by her son, Boyd (Sharon) Nutting of Deerton, Mich.; grandchildren, Boyd (Julie Soles) Nutting, Jr. of Niles, Mich., Cheryl Moore of Marquette and Kristine (Bruce) Bray of Au Train; 6 great-grandchildren, Elizabeth (Zack) McGinnis of Niles, Mich., Walter (Hannah) Moore of Marquette, Clayton Moore of Quantico, Va., Lacy (Brian Stuer) of Marquette, Ally Bray of Au Train and Amy Bray of Fenton, Mich.; great-great-grandchildren, Kylie Stuer, Quinn McGinnis and another on the way; and family friend, Chris Johnson of Marquette. She was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands, Merile Nutting, Allan Curran and Gerald Sweany; a great-grandchild, Ky Vanderbush; and a sister, Betty Cleland.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 12, 2013, at 11 a.m. in Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kim Spencer officiating. Interment will take place in Highland Cemetery in South Bend, Indiana.
