Annual Holocaust Memorial service Sunday

MARQUETTE – People from numerous faith groups will join together Sunday for the annual Holocaust Memorial Service.

The gathering, which is sponsored jointly by the Marquette Interfaith Forum and Temple Beth Sholom, will begin at 7 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Ridge Street in Marquette.

Author Lev Raphael, the son of Holocaust survivors, will be the keynote speaker, presenting a talk titled, “Healing Hatred.”

Raphael has given many speeches in the United States and Germany. After his address, various individuals will present prayers and songs commemorating the Holocaust. The Marquette Male Chorus will also perform.

On Monday, Raphael will visit Northern Michigan University and will present his memoir, “My Germany.” He will also lead a discussion on issues that the second generation of survivors are facing. The NMU presentation will begin at 7 p.m. in the University Center’s Erie Room on campus.
