Dorothy C. Seppanen

MICHIGAMME, Mich. – Dorothy C. Seppanen, age 91, longtime Michigamme resident went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 30, 2013 while a resident at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming where she had been a resident since August of 2007.

Dorothy was born June 15, 1921 in Covington, MI the daughter of the late Eino and Emma (Hutula) Nurmela. She grew up in Covington, and had worked as a cook at her father Eino’s logging camp. Dorothy married Toivo “Wally” Seppanen on Feb. 8, 1942, and he preceded her in death in 2004. Dorothy had also worked as a cook at the 41 Club, and for many years as a motor route postal carrier for the USPS. She had graduated from the Republic-Michigamme Adult Education program at age 66 in 1987. Dorothy had been a longtime member of the TOPS club, and of the Covington VFW auxiliary. Her hobbies included swimming, quilting, sewing, gardening and baking. Dorothy will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend who loved deeply. She was a faithful Christian who served in many areas within the Lutheran Church and her community.

Survivors include 3 sons Kenneth (Trudy) Seppanen of Michigamme, William Seppanen of Miramar, FL, and Raymond (Julie) Seppanen of North Lake; a daughter Annette (D. Michael) Carriere of Negaunee; grandchildren Laurie (Jim) Guidebeck, Kenneth Seppanen Jr., Tracey (David) Whitaker, Angela Seppanen-Murphy, Michael (Chris Olp) Seppanen, Maija Seppanen, Jolene Choudhry, Allison (A.J. Stone) Joy, Aaron (Emily) Carriere and Justin (Kelsey) Carriere; great grandchildren David, Samantha, Jordan, Raider, Braxton, Andrea, and Azalia, a sister-in-law Gladys Nurmela, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also preceded in death by brothers Pete and Roland (Helen) Nurmela.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 10am 12:00 noon on Saturday, April 6, 2012 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming. A memorial service will follow at 12:00 noon at the Bethel Lutheran Church with Pastors Clay Hilman and D. Michael Carriere to officiate. Inurnment will take place at the Lakeview Cemetery in Michigamme.
