Andrew Robert Zorza

NEGAUNEE, MI – Andrew Robert Zorza, age 38, of 330 Cherry Street, Negaunee, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at his home.

Born July 25, 1974 in Marquette, a son of Daniel “Squeak” and Roberta “Bobbie” (O’Neill) Zorza, Andy was raised in Skandia and graduated from Gwinn High School. Although he got older, he always remained a kid at heart. He loved the simple pleasures provided by the outdoors and Mother Nature was his happy place. Andy had a special love of hunting, whether it be bow hunting, deer, duck, or goose hunting, he enjoyed the challenge of the hunt and any opportunity to pursue that passion. Fishing was another passion, any kind of fishing, but possessing a real appreciation for the art of trout stream fishing. In both cases, patience was an asset, and any opportunity to engage in these endeavors meant a good time for Andy. He loved going to “Z Camp” where recreation seemed almost endless and relaxation was always on the agenda. And if all this outdoor activity wasn’t enough, there was always his vegetable garden which produced his rave winning pickles. Most rec ently, Andy became interested in lugeing and discovering the thrill of skimming down an ice covered track. He began volunteering with the Upper Peninsula Luge Club and then became a member of the Lugeing Association. Andy also loved volunteering with UPAWS (Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter). For most of his working career, Andy was employed as a residential carpenter, working for AMCAB (Alger Marquette Community Action Board), loved his job, and was passionate about helping people, especially those less fortunate. He was a perfectionist who cared.

However, his proudest moments were times spent with his children, Gage and Tally. They were his pride and joy. He loved them and was the best father.

In addition to his children, Andy is survived by his special companion, Ashley Kinnunen; sisters, Jean (Sid) Washburn of Skandia, Catherine (Jon) Pederson and Lori (Ben) Zyburt of Marquette; brothers, Brian (Bonnie) Zorza of Skandia and Dan Zorza of Marquette; Ashley’s parents, Jim and Rene Kinnunen of Ishpeming; Ashley’s brother, Andrew Kinnunen of Ishpeming; several aunts and uncles, among them a special aunt, Sue; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; cat buddy, Bugs and canine pal, Lou. Andy was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, John Christopher Zorza.

Friends may call at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 2, beginning at 4:00 pm. Services will be held in the funeral home at 7:00 pm Tuesday evening with Rev. Leon Jarvis presiding.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Northern Michigan Bank, 1502 W. Washington Street, Marquette, MI 49855, in Andy’s name for a fund to be established for his children.
