GWINN – Four people were injured Thursday afternoon when a passenger car was struck by a train in southern Marquette County in Little Lake.

Forsyth Township police declined to release names of those involved today, citing their ongoing investigation. Officers said of four passengers in the car, a child remained in the intensive care unit in fair condition today at Marquette General Hospital.

Police said the driver of the car was treated and released from the hospital and then arrested for allegedly operating a vehicle while intoxicated, causing injury. The two remaining passengers in the car, one of whom was a child, were also taken to the hospital. Police did not provide additional details on their conditions this morning.

Police said the crash was reported at 5:45 p.m. Thursday and occurred on Ski Hill Road. When officers arrived, they found the four passengers in the vehicle with various injuries.

From witness statements police gathered at the scene, it appeared the driver of the car had struck a large water puddle and then continued onto the railroad tracks into the path of an oncoming train, which struck the car, police said.

Police were assisted at the scene by Forsyth Township EMS and Medi-Ride EMS.
