Applications available for summer jobs at park

MUNISING – Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is looking for applicants for its Youth Conservation Corps, a summer work and education opportunity for those between 15 and 18 years old.

The Youth Conservation Corps is a nationwide program for young people, providing opportunities to contribute to the conservation of national parks, forests and wildlife refuges through a combined work and environmental education program.

Enrollees will work with National Park Service employees on conservation related projects in the Munising District at Pictured Rocks. Projects will include facility improvements and clean-up, trail maintenance and the construction of steps, bridges and boardwalks.

There are four positions available. Selection will be made by random drawing, and the winners will be notified during the week of April 15.

Alternates will also be drawn for the program who will be backups to fill positions if any of the original enrollees decline a position.

The Pictured Rocks YCC program will run eight weeks beginning June 2. The youths work a 40-hour week and receive $7.40 per hour. There are no income restrictions for this youth employment program.

Applications must be received no later than April 12 and sent to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, N8391 Sand Point Road, P.O. Box 40, Munising, Michigan 49862. Applications are available at Munising High School, Superior Central School, Michigan Works and the Pictured Rocks Headquarters at N8391 Sand Point Road in Munising.
