Jurasin hits game-winning shot for Chapman’s Tavern

NEGAUNEE – Dylan Jurasin tossed a shot up over the backboard and in on Tuesday at the last second to give Chapman’s Tavern of Ishpeming a 58-56 victory over Bill Smith Attorney of Marquette in Class D action of the Negaunee Invitational Basketball Tournament at Lakeview Memorial Gymnasium.

Jay Chapman led the Ishpeming squad with 20 points while Scott Chapman had 19. For Bill Smith Attorney, Brett Girard had 17 points and Phil Pennell had 15.

In Class E, Corktown Bar of Munising took out Tune Squad of Negaunee 59-38 after only three points separated the teams at halftime. Joe Lasak had 18 points for Corktown and Jarvis Goings posted 15. Carl Johnson and Kyle Fosco each had 10 for Tune Squad.

In the finale Tuesday, Casa Calabria of Marquette won a high-scoring Class EE affair with Palomaki Family Chiropractic of Negaunee, 73-62. Brian Meyers scored 30 points for Casa Calabria and Pete Elenbaus had 14 points. For Palomaki, Kyle Saari totaled 18 points and Joby Sulivan had 16.

The NIT will take tonight off, but resume action on Thursday with three more games beginning at 6 p.m. at Lakeview. In Class EE, Steward and Sheridan of Ishpeming takes on Superior Shooters of Marquette to start things off, followed by North Oak Manufacturing of Negaunee vs. Jubilee Foods of Ishpeming at 7:15 p.m. in Class EE, and at 8:15 p.m. in Class D, U.P. Insurance-D of Negaunee squares off against Steeno’s Bar of Niagara, Wis.
