Bernice ‘Bea’ Ruth Michelin
MARQUETTE, Mich. – Bernice “Bea” Ruth Michelin, age 85, of 2533 Norwood Street, Marquette, entered eternal life Saturday evening, March 23, 2013, at her home, in the loving care of her family.
Bernice was born September 11, 1927, in Marquette to John and Theresa (Miller) Musolf and was a life long resident in Marquette. When Bea was a young girl her father passed away forcing her to leave school in the 8th grade to help with raising her siblings. On September 12, 1945, she married Joseph Albert Michelin and the couple set about establishing their home and raising a family. Bea worked for the Woolworth Company as a retail clerk for over 25 and later worked for her brother’s business the Blue Link Party Store. In 1982 Bea returned to school and graduated with her high school diploma, an accomplishment she was very proud of.
In her retirement Bea kept in close contact with her fellow Woolworth co-workers through monthly luncheons. In her spare time Bea enjoyed playing cribbage, crocheting, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, reading, and had a passion for flowers and gardening. Most of all Bea and her husband, Joseph, cherished the time spent at their camp on the Chocolay River. Bea was greatly loved and will be missed by her family and especially her grandchildren who always called her “Busha,” Polish for “grandma.”
Bea is survived by her three sons, John (Rita) Michelin of Appleton,WI, Bill (Rosemary) Michelin of Negaunee and Jim (Sandy) Michelin of Marquette; three grandchildren, Sunny (Tony) Duran of Frederick, Maryland, Erik Michelin of Ishpeming and Johanna Michelin of Bellingham, WA; five great grandchildren, Justin, Marcus, Marina, Myles and Mara; 3 step-grand children, Crystal, Pamela and Eric; three sisters, Arleen Herlich, Kay Nason and Carol (Robert) Tallio; her brother Bill (Dolores) Musolf; many nieces and nephews and special friend Donald “Porky” Koskey.
In addition to her parents, Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; her infant daughter, Hilda; and two brothers, John and Raymond Musolf.
Friends may call at St. Peter Cathedral Bishop’s Room on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Msgr. Michael Steber officiating. Graveside services will be held at a later date in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
