Mary’s Kids win twice in 2 days at Negaunee Invitational Tournament
NEGAUNEE – Mary’s Kids of Ishpeming made it two wins in as many days at the 49th annual Charter Communications Negaunee Invitational Tournament on Sunday, edging Angry P.C. of Munising, 52-50, in a Class E game.
The Honkala-family team got 16 points from Andy Honkala, while Brad Robinson scored 12 and Troy Seaberg 11 for their Alger County challengers.
Seven games in Classes E and EE were played Sunday, with three on the docket tonight – Tino’s Turnkeys of Negaunee vs. Ore Dock of Marquette in Class E at 6 p.m., Bricklayers of Marquette and Gwinn vs. Derouin’s Auto Body of Escanaba in Class DD at 7:15 p.m. and PC Medic of Gwinn vs. Meyer Family Vision of Republic in Class D at 8:15 p.m.
In other games Sunday, Budweiser of Marquette and Escanaba dropped Space Jam of Negaunee, 52-43, in Class EE. Cody Wheeler scored 18 points and Chris Carter 13 for the winners, while Josh Dodge had 17 for Space Jam.
Corktown Bar of Munising raced past Martin Sports Apparel of Negaunee, 87-55, in Class E. Jarvis Goings scored 34 points and Joe Lasak 27 for Corktown, while Jake Eurant had 23 and Josh Bossert 13 for Martin.
Richmond Logging/Hoy Trucking of Trenary chopped down Pioneer Surgical of Marquette, 67-62, in Class EE. Trevo Maki scored 24 points and Kyle Maki 15 for the winners, while Nathan Ihamaki had 16 and Rob Bennett 12 for Pioneer.
Meyer Family Vision of Ishpeming looked past Verbrigghe Excavation of Chatham, 82-56, in Class EE. The winners’ Todd Saunders scored 33 points and teammate Jeff Blewett 13, while Verbrigghe’s Matt Verbrigghe had 19 and Jesse Chartier 18.
AuTrain Grocery of AuTrain zoomed past Brogie’s Tavern of Negaunee and Ishpeming, 57-45, in Class E. AuTrain’s Paul Johns scored 19 points and Mike Savola II had 14, while Brogie’s Ryan Ayotte scored 20 and Ricky Luokkola 10.
EQ Muffler of Marquette flew past Covington PAC of Covington, 63-54, in Class EE. Steve Willis scored 29 points and Cody Smith 18 for the winners, while Chad Cichosz had 18 for PAC.
In late Saturday action, Dirty Mike’s of Bark River took a 94-78 win over Skip’s Auto of Eben in Class D behind Tyler Meshiguard’s 24 points and Dylan Ranguette’s 17.
Jamie Kienitz (17), Tyler Kienitz (14) and Terry Kienitz (14) all hit double figures for Skip’s.
Josh Cole dumped in 34 points and Mike Downs added 20 as Dick’s Pump and Munch of L’Anse stopped the Black Emeralds of Cooks, 88-57, in Class D.
Randy Long fired in 26 points for the Emeralds.
