Ishpeming DDA set to discuss paving project
ISHPEMING – The Ishpeming Downtown Development Authority is scheduled to discuss paving options for Malton Road at its meeting Monday.
The meeting is at 4 p.m. in the city hall conference room.
At the DDA’s February meeting, the board approved a second change order for the project. The original budgeted amount for Malton Road was $500,000. With the two changes the cost has risen to $572,436.25. That price is with the original contract paving amount of 800 feet.
To pave the entire road, the cost would increase to between $775,000 and $800,000, depending on how wide the road would be and the thickness of the asphalt.
City Manager Jered Ottenwess said a recommendation will be brought to the DDA from the planning commission, the Ishpeming Department of Public Works director, Upper Peninsula Engineers and Architects and himself on how the road should be paved and how much it would cost.
“The hope is that the recommendation will be approved by the DDA, so we can start moving forward with the project,” Ottenwess said.
Also at the meeting, the DDA is expected to discuss the appraisal of the former J.C. Penney parking lot. According to Ottenwess, there are a few for the appraisal of the lot that the DDA will discuss. Ottenwess will also give an update on the purchase agreement of the lot with adjoining property owners.
