Evelyn M. Pepin
MARQUETTE, Mich. – Evelyn Mantonette Pepin, 97, of 1540 Ridge St., Marquette, and former longtime Gwinn resident, died at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 22, 2013, at the Norlite Nursing Center where she had resided since May of 2012.
Evelyn was born December 18, 1915, in Gwinn to G. Adolph and Mary (Larson) Peterson, attended Gwinn Schools and was a Gwinn resident until moving to Marquette with her husband in 1988. In her younger years she worked at the Peterson family store and theater in Gwinn. Mrs. Pepin was an avid Green Bay Packer, New York Yankee, and Michigan Wolverine fan, and she and her husband enjoyed listening to and watching the games.
Surviving are 2 nieces: Peggy (Robert) Lahtela of Republic and Virginia (David) Neuman of Hazelhurst, Wis.; sister- in-law, Isabelle Oien of Crystal Falls; special friend, Nancy Smith; and several cousins. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Craell J. ‘Peto’ Pepin, on October 29, 2011; a daughter, Dixie Lee in 1947; brother, Leslie Peterson; 2 infant brothers; and a special friend, Roland Smith.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26 at the Koskey Funeral Home with the Rev. Geri Hamlen, pastor of Gwinn United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Gwinn Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Norlite Nursing Center Activity Fund in Evelyn’s memory.
