Gearing up for spring

MARQUETTE – The Northern Michigan University Superior Dome will play host to the 20th annual Boat, Sport and RV Show beginning today and running through Sunday.

The show begins at 4 p.m. and runs until 9 p.m. today, and continues from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday. It will conclude Sunday, with hours from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $3.95 for adults, $2.95 for seniors and children ages 6-12. Children under the age of 6 are free.

The event holds the distinction of being the largest indoor display of recreational products in Northern Michigan.

“There is always something new here,” said Dave Kimar, product promoter for Northern Michigan Shows.

Nearly 60 vendors will set up booths and between 7,000 to 10,000 people will attend the event. Enthusiasts and vendors travel from across the Upper Peninsula, northern and lower Michigan and Wisconsin.

According to Kimar, one of the hot items last year was the stand up paddle boards. This year, he couldn’t pinpoint one item that he felt would get the most attention.

Kimar said products span from smaller items such as archery and hunting, to the bigger items like boats, campers and motor homes. The show will also feature canoes, kayaks, motorcycles, fishing tackle, outfitters and lodges.

“The nice thing about the show is that you can view all of this in one building… to not have to run around and to be able to comparison shop for price and quality in one place is really great,” Kimar said.

He added that the show is for all ages. Abracadabra Inflatables of Escanaba will bring some of their inflatable play structures for kids. A trout pond will also be erected for youth to fish for Rainbow Trout.

“After this long winter, this is something to do and I think pepole enjoy seeing what’s new and different, whether or not they are buying” Kimar said.
