Northern Michigan captain Scott Macaulay signs ATO in ECHL

MARQUETTE – Northern Michigan University senior defenseman and captain Scott Macaulay has signed an amatuer tryout agreement with the Bakersfield (Calif.) Condors of the ECHL, the team announced Thursday.

Macaulay will join former NMU starting goaltender Brian Stewart, who backstopped the Wildcats from 2006-10. Stewart and Macaulay were both a part of Northern’s 2010 squad that reached the CCHA Championship game and NCAA tournament.

The Condors are not affiliated with any AHL or NHL franchises.

The two-time NMU captain finished with a career-high five goals, plus with 11 assists, as a senior. He also had a positive plus/minus rating of five. He totaled nine goals and 42 assists in the 142 collegiate games he played in his four-years at NMU.

Macaulay is the second Wildcat to agree to a professional deal this offseason after junior goaltender Jared Coreau decided to forgo his senior season and join the Detroit Red Wings organization. While the two sides agreed to terms this week, an official announcement is not expected until April.
