Names of suspects in home invasion, robbery released
MUNISING – Two Bay City residents arrested Tuesday for a recent armed robbery and home invasion in southern Alger County were arraigned Thursday in district court in Munising.
Richard Anthony VanPelt, 29, is charged with with home invasion, armed robbery, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and unlawful imprisonment. Samantha Jo Menerey, 20, is charged with home invasion and armed robbery.
Both defendants are being held in the Alger County Jail on a $100,000 cash or surety bond and are scheduled for a March 26 preliminary examination.
The charges stem from an incident which occurred at about 5:30 a.m. March 12 at a residence located along Alger County Road 440 in AuTrain Township.
Police said Allen Miron, 19, was assaulted and incapacitated at the residence by multiple suspects who then robbed Miron of property within the home and then fled the scene. Miron was taken to Munising Memorial Hospital where he was treated for injuries suffered in the assault and later released.
