Barbara J. Larson

GWINN, Mich. – Barbara Jean Larson, 80, formerly of the Country Log Apartments, Gwinn, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, March 19, 2013 at Marquette General Hospital with her loving family by her side.

Barbara was born March 14, 1933 in Marquette to Harry and Irene (Dupras) Radtke, graduated from Graveraet High School and St. Lukes Nursing School of Marquette, and was a lifelong area resident.

Mrs. Larson was employed in the healthcare field for many years as an LPN. She retired from Marquette Home Nursing as a home health aide. During retirement, Barbara enjoyed knitting, sewing, puzzle solving and reading. She dedicated her entire life to her husband, children and grandchildren, and homemaking.

Surviving are her six children: Janet (Lt. Col. Bradley) Stried, Cindy (Tim) Beauchamp, and Sally (Steve) Verpooten, all of Gwinn, Catherine (Jon) Hakala of DePere, WI, James (Gina) Larson of Burbank, IL and Gregory Larson of Negaunee; grandchildren: Staff Sargent Christopher (Brittany) Castignanie of Tacoma, WA, Emil Castignanie of DePere; Staff Sargent Daniel Berryman of Gwinn, Justin Beauchamp of Gwinn, Courtney and Riley Larson of Burbank, IL, and Jacob and Joseph Larson of Clarkston, MI; great- grandchildren: Adrian and Eli Castignanie and Graham Michael Castignanie; brother, Daniel Radtke of Marquette; sister, Roberta Radtke of Orlando, FL; loving sister-in-law, Mary Britlinger of Negaunee; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Emil V. Larson in 1989; sister, Roseanne Radtke; brother, Robert Radtke; mother and father-in-law, Vieno and Emil Larson.

Honoring Barbara’s wishes, no services will be held. The family will greet relatives and friends in a Celebration of Life on Saturday, March 23 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the home of Lt. Col. and Mrs. Bradley Stried, 1094 W. Little Shag Lake Road, Gwinn, Mich. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Anthony Catholic Church, Gwinn or the Forsyth Township Senior Center.
