Betty Jean Leverton
ISHPEMING, Mich. – Betty Jean Leverton, age 81, of 650 E. Empire St., Ishpeming, entered eternal life on March 17, 2013 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility while under the loving care of her family and Lake Superior Hospice.
Betty was born March 10, 1932 in Negaunee to John T. and Hildur (Peterson) Lundstrom and graduated from Negaunee High School, class of 1950. Betty was employed by Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company working as a secretary at the main office in Ishpeming.
Betty was an active member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Ishpeming. She began singing in the Negaunee Bethany Lutheran Church choir at the age of 14 later singing in the Ishpeming Bethany Church Choir totaling 64 years. She had a wonderful voice, singing many solos at weddings and funerals. Betty felt her family’s church life was their foundation and she was grateful for God’s many blessings.
Betty was happy spending time at camp on Little Perch Lake. She was a meticulous housekeeper and cook. She cherished time with her family, devoted herself to them, and, to the end of her earthly life, thought of their welfare before her own.
Betty is survived by her husband Raymond, whom she married August 21, 1954, 3 children: David (Meta) Leverton of Ishpeming, Steven Leverton of Juneau, WI and Karen (Philip) Nardi of Bellbrook, OH, 4 grandchildren: Heather (Ben) Phillips, Eric (Megan) Nardi, Matthew Leverton and John Leverton, 4 great-grandchildren: Grace Phillips, Sam Phillips, Joseph Nardi and Laura Nardi, a sister in law Rosemary McCasland of Waukegan, IL along with several nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, and 2 sisters: Dorothy Hebert and Iverna Cattron.
Funeral services for Betty will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday March 22, 2013, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Ishpeming with Rev. Warren Geier officiating. Interment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Betty’s family will greet relatives and friends from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM on Friday, March 22nd, at Bethany Lutheran Church.
Pallbearers will be Phil Nardi, Matthew Leverton, Ben Phillips, Terry Cattron, Wayne Cattron and James Sodergren Sr.

The family are profoundly grateful to the staff of the Marquette County Medical Care Facility for the outstanding level of care Betty received since her admission last October, and to Lake Superior Hospice for their kindness to Betty and guidance to the family during these last weeks.
