Getting set for St. Patrick’s Day

MARQUETTE – Many local eateries and bars were busy preparing Saturday for today’s St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.

One local Irish pub, The Wild Rover, has been getting ready since Wednesday morning, preparing one corned beef a day, said Chef Andrew Sear. The Rover is opening at 7 a.m. for breakfast and will be serving alcohol.

“St. Patrick’s Day is a feast celebration by tradition, so you should be eating on that day,” Sear said.

The Rover has prepared a menu just for St. Patrick’s Day with the traditional corned beef and cabbage, their twist on a reuben and a special patty melt.

“A lot of people don’t know but a patty melt is actually in honor of St. Patrick’s Day traditionally. We have a twist on this,” Sear said. “It’s a half pound burger with a fresh egg, hashbrowns and jalapeno sausage, so it’s a little bit different. We also have four-year aged cheddar (imported from Ireland) and rashers, which is an Irish style bacon.”

As for drink specials, the Rover will of course have a green beer on tap for people to enjoy. There will also be a bagpiper and fiddlers that will be playing periodically throughout day.

Flanigan’s Bar will also host live music starting around 3:30 p.m.

“We already have green beer on tap and ready for people to drink,” said Flanigan’s owner Don Marple. “This is probably one of the busiest days of the year for us. My wife and I have owned the place for the past 15 years and it never fails.”

For those who aren’t beer drinkers, Remies Bar will be serving original flavored green drinks and shots, too, said Russ Modell, general manager and owner.

“Celebrating the Irish festivities makes for a great time for everyone,” Modell said. “We have an easy, fun, atmosphere with professional staff that likes to have fun.”
