James B. King

MARQUETTE, Mich. – James B. King, 82, of Harvey, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, March 12, 2013, at his residence.

Jim was born on April 28, 1930, in Marquette to the late Alexander P. and Ora (Paquette) King and was a lifelong area resident. He was previously employed as a truck mechanic with Vollwerth Meat Company in Marquette and later as a track liner foreman with the L.S. & I. Railroad. He also worked 30 years at the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company Empire Mine as an electronic technician, retiring in 1993.

In his free time, Jim loved hunting, fishing and spending quality time with all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed going to camp and following Detroit Tigers baseball, of which he was a huge fan.

Survivors include 8 children, Kathleen (Tom) Meni of Gwinn, Sandra Kaiser of Marquette, James A. King of Gwinn, Orlene (Brent) Riley of Salt Lake City, Utah, Joseph W. King of Bark River, Peggy (Pat) Brassard of Gwinn, Peter (Betty) King of Republic, and John (Anne) King of Marquette; 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death besides his parents was his wife, Ruth J. King on January 28, 2002; a brother, Alan King and sister, Shirley; also his German shepherd companion, Valverde.

At Jim’s request there will be no visitation or funeral service.
