Council to discuss firearm rights

NEGAUNEE – The Negaunee City Council this evening is scheduled to consider a resolution in support of the Second Amendment, which councilman Keith LaCosse requested to be on the agenda.

The council meets at 7 p.m. at the Negaunee Senior Center.

The resolution states the city council supports the right of citizens to own firearms as stated in the Second Amendment, and any attempt to place restrictions on firearms that under the present law are legal be rejected.

Also on the agenda is a discussion of grant applications for the Bernie Rivers Field Park.

Negaunee recently conducted a citywide recreation survey to identify improvements residents would like to see done as part of the effort to update the city’s recreation plan. The survey showed that many residents would like to see the city develop a large multi-use park to play sports in, walk, bike and to have a fitness trail at Bernie Rivers Field Park.

The council is applying for two grants, including a $100,000 Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund Grant and a $100,000 Land and Water Conservation Fund Grant to renovate and upgrade the park.
