John Kenneth Chaptman Key
GWINN, Mich. – John Kenneth Chaptman Key, 88, of Gwinn, entered the loving embrace of our Lord on Monday afternoon, March 4, 2013, at Marquette General Hospital.
He was born September 10, 1924, in Smithfield, Virginia, the tenth of 14 children of the late Bervin and Dinah (Diggs) Key.
John was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force. He served during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam before retiring in 1966. He worked various jobs following his retirement, but none gave him greater joy than his job as a greeter at Walmart in Marquette.
He had been a resident of Gwinn since 1964 when he was stationed at K.I. Sawyer AFB. He was a devout Christian and member of the Upper Room Church of God in Sands Township and the Little Lake American Legion.
John is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Kazue Key of Gwinn; adoring children, Akemi Joyce of Gwinn, Earnest Key of California and John (Lupe) Key of California; grandchildren, Rebekah Joyce of Gwinn, John and Jenelle Key of California and Samantha Key of Virginia; two sisters, Diana R. Key of New York and Gladys K. Williams of Maryland; and a multitude of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Theadore Roosvelt Key, Bervin Hezekiah Key, Jr., Isaiah Key Sr., Carey Primbroke Key, Earnest Key and Parker Ray Key; and sisters, Mary K. Kelly, Georgette Key, Rebecca K. Jones, Norman K. Greene and Precious Irene Key.

Funeral Services will be held on June 22, 2013, at the Upper Room Church of God and will be announced by the Canale-Gwinn Funeral Home.
