Meow March a virtual fundraiser
NEGAUNEE – The Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter is conducting a Meow March fundraiser until March 31. This is a “virtual” fundraiser and provides an opportunity for cat lovers to raise donations for UPAWS homeless pets.

Trout Unlimited to meet
MARQUETTE – The Fred Waara Chapter of Trout Unlimited will host Fishing After Hours at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Board Room of The Landmark Inn in Marquette.
Mac Strand of the Northern Michigan University Biology Department will speak on aquatic insects that populate Upper Peninsula streams, and the nature of the zebra mussel infestation of the lower Escanaba River.
Light refreshments will be available after 5:30 p.m. All who are interested in cold water fisheries and conservation are welcome.
Derrell Syria to perform
MARQUETTE – The city of Marquette Arts and Culture Center Concert Series will host Derrell Syria at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Peter White Public Library’s Community Room. Syria is a local musician who performs original music, as well as covers of classic rock, reggae and jazz tunes.

Free vision screening offered
REPUBLIC – The Republic Lions Club in cooperation with Project Kidsight will be offering a free vision screening to any child, primarily age 1 to 6, although they also will screen older children and adults. This noninvasive photo-screening will be offered from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at Republic-Michigamme School.
This screening tests for amblyopia (lazy eye), anisometropia (differences in refraction), astigmatism (malformed cornea), hyperopia (farsightedness), media opacity (cataracts), myopia (nearsightedness), ptosis (droopy eyelid), and strabismus (crossed or out-turning eye).

MARQUETTE – Peter White Public Library will host an All-Ages Band Show at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Community Room. Featured will be the Goldmine Girls and Sass Captains. All are welcome.
