Library readies for Seuss’s birthday

ISHPEMING – The Ishpeming Carnegie Library is honoring Dr. Seuss, celebrating his birthday Saturday with the Dr. Seuss Puppet Show Extravaganza.

Dr. Seuss’s 109th birthday is Saturday, and this year also marks 75 years of books. Children’s librarian Sue Danielson and her theater crew will be doing a puppet show of excerpts from beloved Dr. Seuss stories. Featured will be “The Cat in the Hat,” “Green Eggs and Ham,” “The Lorax,” “Horton Hears a Who” and “The Cat in the Hat Comes Back.”

“I choose these stories because they are my favorite Dr. Seuss books, but they’re also fun,” Danielson said.

During the puppet show there will be kids in costumes acting as characters and audience participation. Afterwards there will be crafts, where children can make their own red and white striped hats, as well as Dr. Seuss-themed snacks.

“It’s free fun and will help get your children into the love of reading books,” Danielson said. “Reading Dr. Seuss is always fun and there’s always a lesson to be learned in the stories.”

The extravaganza begins at 1 p.m. in the children’s room of the library with a puppet show and is free to all who attend. There will also be a puppet show of “Green Eggs and Ham” on March 9 at 1 p.m.
