Becoming an outdoors woman

BIG BAY – Mining Journal staff writer Jackie Stark took part in a three-day Becoming an Outdoors-Woman in Michigan event held at Bay Cliff Health Camp in Big Bay from Feb. 22-24. The event, organized by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, offers women age 18 and older a chance to learn new outdoors skills, or practice old ones, in a comfortable, non-judgmental atmosphere that is catered to people at the beginner level. Stark wrote a series of articles on the experience, featured in today’s special section. A first-person account written by Stark is also featured today on page 1A. Above are a few photographs of the experiences of some of the 68 women who attended the BOW event. For more information on the BOW program, visit www.michigan.gov/bow.
