Joshua Davis Band to perform

MARQUETTE – The Joshua Davis Band will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Kaufman Auditorium in Marquette.

The show includes guest performers Seth Bernard and May Erlewine. Davis’ band features Laura Bates, Jen Sygit, Mike Lynch, Geoff Lewis & Zak Bunce.

Davis, who lives in Lansing, is a regular performer in the Marquette area. He’s released albums under his own name, with roots ensemble Steppin’ In It and classic swing band Shout Sister Shout. He’s appeared on many more.

The Friday show will celebrate the release for Davis’s new CD, “A Miracle of Birds,” inspired by a 5-day, 129-mile ultramarathon in Palestine last year. In February, he traveled to Palestine and Israel with nonprofit organization On the Ground to participate as “cultural emissary” in a fundraising journey to support fair trade farming communities in the West Bank.

The album was inspired by his experience in the Holy Land. Half of the proceeds will go toward olive tress and educational scholarships for the farmers and families he encountered during his travels. The songs are deeply personal and deal with his struggle between his Jewish identity and the oppression and confusion he found in the Middle East.

Tickets cost $10 in advance, $12 at the door, $8 for children. Advance tickets are available at the Marquette Food Co-op.
