Wave of pink

To the Journal editor:

We (Cancer Care of Marquette County board) would like to personally thank the student athletes and Northern Michigan University for the Pink Wave event that took place Feb. 9 at the Berry Events Center.

Hosted by the Northern Michigan University Intercollegiate Athletic and Recreation Department, the Pink Wave event raised funds for CCMC.

During the Pink Wave event, special pink jerseys were worn by NMU athletes and fans were encouraged to wear pink as well, creating a wave of pink. Pink Wave apparel was available for purchase at all three games. In addition, the NMU Bookstore is also selling the pink apparel.

All net proceeds are being donated to CCMC, an all volunteer local organization providing financial and referral assistance to Marquette County residents who are receiving treatment for cancer.

The day began with men’s basketball at 11 a.m. followed by the women’s basketball at 1 p.m. Hockey wrapped up the day at 7:35 p.m. All three games were against Ferris State University.

Some of the NMU student athletes came up with the idea of the Pink Wave and worked with NMU faculty and staff to make the event a success. Their goal is to make this an annual event.

I encourage all county residents to attend and support this worthy cause. Many Marquette County residents and their families will benefit from their generosity.

If you or someone you know has questions about CCMC, or need the assistance it provides please call 906-486-8641, visit our website or find us Facebook.

Many thanks to all who made this event a success.
