Peter “Les” Holm, Jr.
MARQUETTE, MI. – Peter “Les” Holm, Jr. 89, of Marquette, died early Saturday morning, February 16, 2013, at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette in the comfort of his family.
Les was born on February 27, 1923 in Marquette to the late Peter and Clara (L’Huillier) Holm, Sr. and was a lifelong Marquette resident. Les was a decorated World War II veteran; having proudly served his country with the United States Navy where he received a Purple Heart as a result of his service.
After returning to this area after the war, Les was married to the former Leona Maria Beaudry on June 25, 1945 in Marquette.
He was formerly employed by Pellow Roofing and at Public Service Garage as a mechanic, later becoming service manager of their used car department. He was also employed at Montgomery Wards in Marquette as service manager in their automotive department. After retiring, Les worked as a mechanic for Associated Constructors.
In his free time, Les enjoyed going to the family camp in Limestone, hunting, fishing, and playing a good joke on someone or telling a good joke. He also enjoyed playing cribbage at the Moose Lodge and the Senior Center. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church.
Les is survived by his wife of 67 years, Leona Holm of Marquette; 4 children, Peter (Margaret) Holm III of Manitowoc, WI, Mike (Bridget) Holm, Debbie (Mark) Dollar, and Brian (Brenda) Holm, all of Marquette; 1 sister, Mary Lou (Louis) Winters of Marquette; also 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death besides his parents were 2 grandchildren, Heidi Holm and Greg Kauppila; a brother, Leonard Holm and 2 sisters, Betty Daugherty and Helen Thompson.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church in Marquette. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the church at 1 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Larry Van Damme, officiating. Spring burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Brian Holm, Jr., Jeremy Holm, Paul L’Huillier, and Dan Thill.
