Severino B. ‘Sonny’ Guizzetti
NATIONAL MINE, MI – Severino B. “Sonny” Guizzetti, 80, of 940 Co. Rd. PAA, National Mine, died at 2:46 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family and under the care of U.P. Home Health and Hospice.
Sonny was born March 6, 1932 in Negaunee to Frank and Angeline (Bonetti) Guizzetti, attended Negaunee St. Paul High School and was a lifelong area resident. He was employed by CCI as an underground miner at the Mather ‘A’ Mine, and retired from the Tilden Mine as the Fire Suppression Specialist in 1990 with 42 years of service with the company.
Mr. Guizzetti was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Ishpeming, was a lifetime member of the Negaunee Knights of Columbus, and was a former member of the Negaunee Eagles. He enjoyed gardening vegetables and flowers, playing bingo, an occasional trip to the casino, wood working and keeping busy. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Joyce A. (Treloar) Guizzetti; 3 daughters: Susan (John) Hamel of Humboldt Twp, Mary Jo (Jack) Laakso of Gillette, WY and Diane Guizzetti of LaPorte, IN; a son, Paul (Sandra) Guizzetti of Tucson, AZ; 11 grandchildren: David (Justina) Helsten, Shawn (Tina) Helsten and Brian (Lisa) Helsten, Brenda (Scott) Virnig, Amy (Bill) Jannausch, Steven (Angie) Laakso, Eric (Cynthia Zaugg) Laakso and Anna Laasko, Monica Hampton, Travis (Shayla) Guizzetti and Jared Guizzetti; 16 great- grandchildren; a great-great- grandson; a sister, Gloria (Dennis) Lakari of Ishpeming; 2 sisters-in-law: Gail Guizzetti and Elaine Poirier; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Severino was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Francis B. Guizzetti, in 2008.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 21st at the Koskey Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Heikkala officiating. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Thursday.
