Electros drop final two games in Madison
MARQUETTE – The Marquette Electricians dropped their final two games played Feb. 9-10 at the Madison, Wis., Tournament.
The Local 1070 Midget AAA team was outshot 42-20 in a 4-2 loss to the hometown Madison Capitals as Marquette’s Eric Chapman scored both goals. Teammate Torrin Grange picked up assists on each goal as netminder Adam Ranck made 38 saves, including 23 in the second period.
In a 3-2 loss to Lake Forest, Ill., Academy, Electricians goalie Bryce Leaf made 42 saves as his teammates were outshot 45-18.
Grange and Matthew Stewart scored Marquette’s goals, with assists going to Chapman, Jordan Frazier, Andrew Plomer and Ethan St. Germain.
The Electricians (8-28-10) plays the Electricians Alumni at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16, at Northern Michigan University’s Berry Events Center, then hosts the Northern Lights Hockey League playoffs starting the morning of Friday, Feb. 22.
Hockey Central finishes
4-0 from Feb. 8-10
The Marquette Hockey Central Pee Wee B squad won all the games it played the weekend of Feb. 8-10.
On Feb. 10, the team defeated Marquette McDonald’s, 5-3. Gaetano Cammarata tallied a goal and two assists, while Hockey Central teammates Jon Jason and Collin Fure added two goals apiece.
Tim Muladore picked up an assist.
For McDonald’s, Sterling Wright scored twice, with Hunter Whitaker adding a goal and an assist.
Soren Higgins made 18 saves in goal for the victory; Braden Golisek 10 in the loss.
Feb. 9, Hockey Central swept Newberry, 5-2 and 4-1.
In the morning game, Jason and Cammarata each posted two goals and two assists, with Fure contributing a single tally.
Adding single assists were Muladore, Brendan McCoy, David Storm and Russ Modell.
Higgins made 19 saves in the win.
In the afternoon, Jason scored three goals and Fure a single tally. Cammarata collected three assists and Modell a single helper.
Higgins came up with 17 saves.
Feb. 8, Hockey Central defeated Munising, 11-1. Cammarata led the way with three goals and four assists, while Jason recorded a goal and four assists.
Higgins collected three goals and an assist; Storm two goals and an assist; and Karsten Kamps two goals.
Adding single helpers were Fure, Modell and Braedyn Locke.
Scoring for Munising was Mikala Robinson, with an assist going to JimBob Eiseman.
Muladore made four saves for Hockey Central; Ryan Pond came up with 32 stops in the loss.
Wells Fargo loses twice
The Wells Fargo U14 girls traveled to Eagle River (Wis.) for two games and lost them both, 4-1 and 2-1.
Scoring for Marquette were Julia Johnson, on assists from Kailey Godfrey and Lexi White, and White on an assist from Kara Salo.
Briana Holman combined for 34 saves for Wellks Fargo in the two games between the pipes.
Legion wins three
Playing at Lakeview Arena in Marquette Feb. 9-10, the Marquette American Legion Bantam AA hockey team won all three against the Stevens Point (Wis.) Ice Hawks.
In the first game Feb. 9, Legion captured a 3-2 win on goals by Spencer DenBeste, Alistar Henderson and Joe Phillips.
Nick Bink, Justin Hendrickson, DenBeste, Branden Campbell, Kyle Land and Donny Schultz collected assists.
Netminder Jack Eyler made 27 saves for Legion.
In Marquette’s second game the same day, Tristan Ashbrook scored twice as Legion posted a 5-3 triumph. Schultz, Campbell and Bink also found the back of the net.
Recording assists were Ben Cole (2) Ashbrook, DenBeste (2), Henderson, Phillips, Caden Paquette and Hendrickson.
Travis Cameron turned aside 17 shots on goal for Marquette.
On Feb. 10, Legion (29-23-8) posted a 3-1 triumph behind tallies by Hunter Doucette, DenBeste and Shane Ring.
Earning helpers were Henderson, Bink and Campbell.
Eyler made 16 saves for Legion.
City Insurance goes 1-2
The City Insurance Pee Wee AA hockey team won its first game against Stevens Point (Wis.), 3-1, before losing its next two of a series Feb. 9-10.
The Sentinels got a goal and two assists from Nate Bordson in their win. Luke Beerman and Daunte Fortner also scored, with goaltender Tyler Bergwall making 25 saves.
Also Feb. 9, the Sentinels bowed, 5-1. Beerman notched the lone Marquette goal and Dylan Sibilsky turned aside 22 shots on net.
Feb. 10, the Sentinels fell short to Stevens Point, 4-3, though Beerman scored twice for Marquette.
Bordson added a goal and two helpers, while teammate Nick Leafers contributed an assist.
Bergwall made 12 stops for the Sentinels (40-18-2).
