Marquette Senior High School shut out at Trenton Hockey Showcase

MARQUETTE – They had numerous shots on goal, but the Marquette Senior High School hockey Redmen couldn’t find the back of the net Saturday in the downstate Trenton Showcase.

Coach Mike L’Huillier’s Redmen pelted Grosse Pointe South goaltender Andrew Bright with 40 shots on net, but he turned all of them aside as Marquette lost 3-0 in a penalty-filled game.

“We had a 5-on-3 in the third period and peppered him with shots, but couldn’t score,” L’Huillier said after his team fell to a 4-16 mark. “He was the difference.

“He was so quick left-to-right and we just couldn’t beat him.”

The winners scored twice in the first period and once in the third, all power play markers, to take the triumph.

The two teams combined for 21 penalties.

Ethan Wiese and Evan Kyle shared goaltending duties for the Redmen. Wiese made 18 stops and Kyle 25.
