James H. Schrandt (Joe)

LANSING, MI. – James H. Schrandt (Joe), of Lansing Michigan born on March 31, 1930 in Marquette Michigan passed away February 4, 2013 in Lansing. He was 82 years old. He was the youngest of seven children born to Howard and Elizabeth Jane Schrandt.

Joe attended John D. Pierce High School in Marquette, graduating in 1948. He remained in Marquette to enter Northern State Teachers College which awarded his bachelor’s degree. After graduating college, Joe served two years in the Army of Occupation in Germany.

He was an elementary school teacher for over 30 years for the Lansing School District. Joe also worked for several years for the City of Lansing during the summers in the Parks & Recreation Department.

During his retirement years, Joe enjoyed doing odd jobs like painting houses, mowing lawns. He also worked in a friend’s thrift store until the business closed. Joe always had his finger on the pulse of the neighborhood and looked out for his neighbors.

He is survived by his wife Mary (Roberts) Schrandt, Lansing Michigan, sons Kurt (Brenda) Schrandt, Fruitport Michigan, and Kriss Schrandt, Lansing, brothers George (Flora) Schrandt, Houston Texas, and Myron (Mimi), Williamsburg Virginia. Preceding Joe in death besides his parents were his sister Lois Peckfelder, Sweethome, Oregon; brother Howard, Ishpeming, Michigan; brother Robert Schrandt, Garden City, Michigan.
