To the Journal editor:
Recently my husband spent 12 days at Marquette General Hospital, eight of those in the intensive care unit, 4 on a ventilator. Needless to say this was a very difficult time for us.
But what I want to share with you is the level of care we received. I say we because they not only cared for him but me also.
Doctors Danek, Griffith, hospitalist and nurses were compassionate. If I needed a hug or a reassuring word, someone was there.
On the day he went on the ventilator, I went into the ICU waiting room and there were 14 family and friends there to support me. What great comfort that was.
So to those of you who feel you must go out of town to get quality care, you’re wrong, you can get it here at MGH and the big plus of having family and friends nearby is priceless. Please think of MGH first, you or your loved one will receive excellent care.
