Redmen icers lose

MARQUETTE – Unable to generate much offense, the Marquette Senior High School hockey team fell to host Flint Powers Catholic Friday night, 3-1.

Down 2-0 in the second period, the Redmen got a marker from Luke Schwemin – assisted by Scott Frazier and Ryan Hanson – to draw within a goal.

MSHS (2-11) pulled goaltender Evan Kyle with 2:13 left in the game, but couldn’t score the tying goal.

Flint Powers notched an empty-net marker with 38.2 seconds left to seal the win.

“We had many opportunities to score (after pulling our goalie), but couldn’t put the puck in the net,” MSHS head coach Mike L’Huillier said. “In the third period, we outshot them and outplayed them.

“It was the best three periods we’ve had all season. The kids gave a great effort and I’m happy with how we’re improving.”

No saves for Kyle were available.
